William Edwards Fine Bone China Care Guide

William Edwards Fine Bone China is an excellent choice for those who want to introduce a touch of luxury and elegance to their table settings and food service. While quality china designed for professional use is durable, it still requires some T.L.C to make sure you're getting the most out of it. Below are some quick tips to help you make sure the William Edwards Fine Bone China that you use in your establishment lasts and looks its best for outstanding presentation.

Washing

  • Wash as soon as possible after use to avoid staining.
  • It is advisable to hand wash china with gold or platinum decoration and/or edges. Do not use metal scourers or abrasive detergents or powders as this can damage both the glaze and decoration.
  • Use a detergent that is suitable for Fine Bone China, and ensure that the concentration is correct when used to avoid damage to these items. Especially pieces that include gold or platinum decoration.
  • When using a dishwasher, the recommended temperature to effectively clean your china without damage is 60°C and no higher than 65°C.
  • Do not overload the dishwasher, and ensure that all cutlery is washed separately using a designated cutlery basket to avoid metal marking.
  • Stack carefully and ensure that items are not touching.
  • Many dishwashers have a short wash or a china/crystal cycle setting. Use this to clean your china items where possible.
  • If you noticed any deposits on your china after they have been in the dishwasher, rinse immediately.

Stain Removal

  • To avoid stains on your Fine Bone China tableware, make sure to remove any leftover food/beverages from these items and rinse off residue as soon as possible.
  • If you do start to notice staining (particularly on cups after tea and coffee) use a good quality de-tanning solution. Do not use abrasive materials to scrub your Fine Bone China.
  • In 'hard water' areas you may notice deposits forming. If this does occur, the majority of these deposits can be removed with a solution of vinegar and water.
  • If plantinum decoration or edges show signs of tarnish, carefully use a silver 'mitt' to polish.

Microwaves

  • Never place china with a metallic decoration or edge into a microwave.

Thermal Shock

  • To reduce the possibility of thermal shock damage, do not take china from very cold areas, such as a freezer, and place on a hot surface or ovens as this will risk significant damage.
  • Never use china for cooking or place over a naked flame.

Use of Racking

  • Make sure that any racking you use is strong and suitable for these pieces. If using metal racking, it must be coated with rubber or plastic to stop marking. High-quality plastic racking is recommended.
  • Do not mix different sized items in the same rack/basket.
  • Store cutlery separately to prevent metal marking during storage and movement, especially when cleaning.

Handling Fine Bone China

  • Never mix china with metal utensils or cutlery — store cutlery separately.
  • Do not use abrasive materials.
  • Avoid storing plates on top of one another. Where possible, store with dividers or place napkins between.
  • Always lift plates out from a stack, never slide.
  • Do not scrape with metal utensils when removing left over food. Always use rubber or plastic scrapers instead.
  • Use rubber or plastic mats on stainless steel surfaces where possible.
